Court Dismisses PFDJ Seattle Case Against 13 Eritrean Activists
Esteemed members of the justice movement, and Eritrean people at large,
The unlawful lawsuit, which demonstrated a new trend in transnational repression, filed by the Eritrean Regime (PFDJ) and its agents, against 13 activists in Seattle, Washington, that persisted for more than two years has concluded with a decisive victory for the courageous and dedicated fighters for justice. On this occasion, the Eritrean Transnational Repression Response Task Force expresses its profound satisfaction and extends its congratulations to the defendants who endured immense sacrifice and pressure, to all advocates for justice who provided invaluable financial and moral support throughout this ordeal, and to the Eritrean people at large.
The dismissal of PFDJ’s lawsuit in Seattle is a welcome development. However, we must not forget that through similar actions or through overt and covert methods, the Eritrean regime’s transnational repression efforts will continue. These lawsuits are part of a broader strategy designed to demoralize justice advocates by levying baseless accusations, dragging them through lengthy court processes, imposing severe financial burdens, and inflicting significant psychological distress with the aim of weakening the fighting spirit of advocates for justice and silencing the voice of resistance. This is a very common form of transnational repression, but not the only one. It is the awareness of such situations that led to the formal establishment of a taskforce, by Eritreans fighting for justice, as it was announced through April 2026 press release, with purpose of combating PFDJ’s transnational repression in all its forms.
Consequently, while celebrating this initial victory, we are required to intensify our vigilance and strengthen our resistance against PFDJ’s transnational repression. A critical task lies ahead: minimum to minimize, if possible, to totally dismantle PFDJ’s and its external support networks increasingly intensifying transnational repression activities in the diaspora. This effort is essential to ensuring that our peace-loving people can live freely, express their views openly, and advocate for justice without fear or anxiety. Doing so is also part of our broader pursuit of justice for our country.
Finally, we recognize that achieving these goals of overcoming PFDJ’s transnational repression requires human and financial resources, as well as a united and sustainable effort. We would also like to remind the need to ensure broader unity within our ranks, increase our commitment and participation, and maintain and strengthen the already legally established transparent management legal fund.
